VICTORY! After a long, hard fight, the city of Charlotte, NC has banned wild and exotic animals in circuses and other traveling acts. ADI has worked for years alongside Kristen Moyer and North Carolina Voters for Animal Welfare, providing oral and written testimony in support of a full wild animal ban, as the city council tried to push a bull hook ban. Residents of Charlotte stood up and spoke out, making their voices heard - only a full wild animal ban would protect the animals.

Monday night the City Council heard us loud and clear and voted 6-4 in favor of the full ban. Our thanks to all who called in and attended meetings to let the City Council know that we would not settle for less. Special thanks to Council members Matt Newton, Dimple Ajmera, Tariq Bokhari, Larken Egleston, Victoria Watlington and Braxton Winston who voted in support.

Over 100 local ordinances have passed in 34 states, as well as statewide bans in New Jersey, Hawaii, California, and Colorado. It is past time for the United States to join the nearly 50 countries that have already banned the use of wild and exotic animals in circuses and end circus suffering nationwide.
