Connecticut Just Banned Dog Racing

From GREY2K USA

"It's mindboggling to think that at one time people considered this a legitimate sport, and I give credit to animal advocacy groups for their activism that has raised awareness about the abuse and extreme conditions these dogs face, leading to bans in nearly every state across the country." - Governor Ned Lamont

Please join me in celebrating another big victory for the greyhounds! Yesterday, Connecticut became the 43rd American state to outlaw live dog racing when Governor Lamont signed SB 132, An Act Concerning Dog Racing.

This wonderful moment comes after four previous bills were filed beginning in 2017! It took tenacity and commitment to help the greyhounds reach the finish line this year. Please thank Representative Mike D'Agostino (D-Hamden) for never giving up. Our wonderful lobbyist Alexis Bourassa was absolutely key to the passage of SB 132 and we are grateful to the entire team of Focus Government Affairs for their hard work over the last three years. Thanks are also due to all the GREY2K volunteers who testified in favor of our bills and wrote to lawmakers, to Annie Hornish of the Humane Society of the United States, and to our dear friends with Connecticut Votes for Animals.

There are still seven American states in which dog racing is legal, and West Virginia has two operating tracks. Learn more and help pass the US Greyhound Protection Act now. Until this historic legislation is passed, we will continue to work state-by-state, but a federal bill is the best way to ensure that all American greyhounds will be free again.
