This cruelty could not have ended soon enough. Over the last several years, there have been 1,100 reported greyhound injuries in the Hawkeye State. Most of these were serious and 61% involved broken legs. Other dogs like Superior Rex died of heart attacks or suffered puncture wounds, fractured skulls, internal bleeding or paralysis.

Greyhound Dee Dee
Dee Dee was one of the lucky dogs rescued from Dubuque Greyhound Park.

Iowa was also a hub for the sale of cheap meat and illegal drugs. Jason Haynes and Victory Feed sold 4-D diseased meat from slaughterhouses to tracks as far away as Tucson, Arizona. Haynes was once the Vice President of the National Greyhound Association and President of the Iowa Greyhound Association.

Jon Stidham, one-time Treasurer of the IGA, recently pleaded guilty to federal charges for trafficking hundreds of thousands of doses of performance-enhancing and other controlled substances. Authorities seized over 4,000 capsules of methyltestosterone, records of phony prescriptions and a list of dog names going back years.

Greyhound Lenny
Lenny tested drug positive at Dubuque in 2015.

Thanks to you and so many caring people, the cruelty of dog racing in Iowa is now over. Thank you for your support as we continue to help give all greyhounds the second chance they deserve.

Please consider making a donation to help end dog racing wherever it exists. Every dollar brings the greyhounds one step closer to freedom.
