Little Ferdinand Didn't Want to be in a Bullfight

From SHARK SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness
August 2023

Everyone could see he was suffering, but his abusers simply didn’t care. And so it continued through the day. A little, bloody calf and his herd, cruelly abused by cowards desperately trying to prove their manhood.

Today I am writing you to explain one day in the life of a couple of horribly abused little steers.

First up, I want to introduce Little Ferdinand, after the storybook bull who didn’t want to fight: The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf

The Ferdinand in our story didn’t want to fight, and neither did the other steers in his herd. Ferdinand is barely more than a calf. His herd had the terrible misfortune of being owned by a soulless individual who supplies Mexican-style rodeos.

On July 22, 2023, Ferdinand and his herd were trucked to a location in Ogle County, Illinois for a supposed Mexican cultural event. But the only culture on display on this day would be a culture of cruelty, cowardice, and corruption.

A SHARK drone first recorded Ferdinand as he was forced through a chute to be chased by a fake cowboy on horseback. Running at full speed, Ferdinand was grabbed by his tail and pulled around, which sent him crashing violently to the ground.

When Ferdinand got up he had a broken right horn, and was in terrible pain. He tried to shake the pain away, but that only made it worse. There was no one to help him. No one cared, so he ran for his herd.

And then he had to do it again, and again, and again.

Everyone could see he was suffering, but his abusers simply didn’t care. And so it continued through the day. A little, bloody calf and his herd, cruelly abused by cowards desperately trying to prove their manhood.

This white steer was partially degloved at an event in Will County. His only luck was that due to his injury, he was no longer able to continue runs at the event and was no longer going to be subjected to abuse over and over again.

He was left alone with no veterinary care for hours. After such an extensive period of time, his swishing of his tail with this brutal wound splattered his body with blood.
