Vegan Pastor Frank Hoffman tells us that the sheep in the New Testament are a metaphor for humans. As sheep, we humans are supposed to follow and be subordinate to our shepherd, which represents the Heavenly Father. God wants us to follow Him by living in His heavenly will and truly wanting to do so. The New Testament uses sheep to relay this message, because many people during the biblical times were sheep herders and animal caregivers, so this comparison naturally made sense to them.
