For today’s episode, vegan Pastor Frank addresses whether the Word of God tells us how to care for the planet. We can go back to the first Book of Genesis, when God created Eden (a vegan paradise) and required that humans care for and protect the earth and everyone on it. Sadly, the majority of human beings have been working to destroy the earth and its inhabitants ever since. We shouldn’t compartmentalize God’s creation; we must protect ALL of it! Loving God and His creation means loving other families (nonhuman and human), other countries, our enemies; it means putting God and others above ourselves. We don’t have to be perfect, but we have to do our best. “Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men” (Colossians 3:23). It is disingenuous to say that we love God and then treat His creation with violence and indifference. Loving God’s creation means loving nonhuman people and we can’t begin to do that outside ourselves without first going inside ourselves and addressing who and what we eat, what we do (for work, for entertainment), what we support, and what we buy.
