The 2011 film questions the sustainability of a meat-based diet. It is even mentioned that a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet is less sustainable than a poultry-based diet because these vegetarians tend to eat more eggs and dairy to make up for the lack of other animal products.
Planeat claims that switching to a plant-based diet can help solve world hunger and also global warming. The film also covers the health benefits of a vegan diet (such as reversing heart disease).
It seems that documentaries about how our diets are affecting us and our environment are being released more frequently. This trend should not be ignored by our society as it could be life-changing, or even life-saving. Planeat is one of the latest films that will change the way you look at food.
The film, directed by Shelley Lee Davies and Or Shlomi, questions the sustainability of a meat-based diet. It is even mentioned that a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet is less sustainable than a poultry-based diet because these vegetarians tend to eat more eggs and dairy to make up for the lack of other animal products. Personally, I think that is just because some people think that “vegetarian” means “covered in cheese.” (At least, that is what I learned last year while traveling through the southern parts of the United States.)
Planeat claims that switching to a plant-based diet can help solve world hunger and also global warming. The film also covers the health benefits of a vegan diet (such as reversing heart disease), backed by research from The China Study and interviews from Dr. T. Colin Campbell and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn.
Not only is the film packed with information from researchers and patients, but it also contains vibrant images of delicious-looking food. I had eaten just before I watched Planeat, but I still found myself drooling over the vegan dishes put together by vegan chefs. If you are still eating meat and think that vegan food is boring, think again. The documentary shows chefs putting together colorful main courses and desserts. Also, if you visit the website, you can grab some new recipes to try a delicious plant-based meal for yourself after you feel tantalized enough from the film.
