A series of commentaries by Mary T. Hoffman about: humans and animals and the cruelty inflicted upon them; prayer and grace, and the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives; and the problems that plague our lives in this corrupted world.

Using Your Brain
By Mary T. Hoffman

Did Jesus withdraw periodically to pray (talk to His Father) alone because in that way He could get away from the distractions that might sway His good judgment and make Him go along with the crowd? Or perhaps even He needed to gain a fresh perspective?

I’ve noticed that sometimes it is difficult to be aware of the errors of a group if one is immersed in everyday goings-on. One needs to get away and get a fresh perspective. Perhaps that is why groups that brainwash don’t want their members (sheep) straying from the fold. They don’t want them to use their God-given brainpower to figure things out for themselves.

“Retreats” sponsored by organizations would not qualify as getaways of the type Jesus used to communicate with His Father, God. Although much good can result from these retreats, they can also be used to further the errors of the group involved.

Why urge people to use “discernment” and to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit if you only want them to follow along without questioning the organization’s narrow, official thinking?
