Equal is but two years old, and this was to be her very
first race but instead she died from heat stroke.
Over the course of three days (Aug 24-26) at Ellis Park, the stewards report the following:
“Know Who You Are finished 4th and required the horse ambulance. It was reported that the horse was treated for a post-race heatstroke and was placed on See Vet List.”
“True Jedi trailed the field and was eased. It was later reported that the horse had suffered a post-race heatstroke and was placed on See Vet List.”
“Twirling Troillet finished 6th and required the horse ambulance. It was later reported that the horse had suffered a post-race heatstroke and was placed on See Vet List.”
That’s three heatstrokes in three days. Oh, how pampered they are.
Also, the stewards say, “Equal Success was a late scratch when she unseated her rider in the post parade, ran loose, and fell while jumping the outside rail.” Equal is but two years old, and this was to be her very first race.
It's called fear and flight, folks.
