City Councilmember: "Why I was interested in this is in the fact that Sebastopol holds itself out for being a kind city, and I always interpreted that for kind for everyone, any sentient being.”
On May 2, 2023, the Sebastopol, California City Council passed a historic resolution to support DxE activists including myself who are facing charges in Sonoma County for peaceful actions at factory farms where animals were openly rescued from abuse. Sebastopol is the third city to pass a resolution condemning the prosecution of animal rescuers, following Berkeley and San Francisco—and it is the first city to do so in Sonoma County!
Support for the Right to Rescue is growing! Sebastopol City
Councilmember Stephen Zollman, who introduced the resolution, said,
“Why I was interested in this is in the fact that Sebastopol holds
itself out for being a kind city, and I always interpreted that for
kind for everyone, any sentient being.”
Councilmember Sandra Maurer told the activists who gave public
comment, "I am inspired and grateful for your courage, for your
commitment to your values and to the care that you feel for the
animals. I believe in the right to rescue animals in distress."
