It's a supply and accessiblity issue. So why are our tax-dollars not going to these foods?

The Problem

The USDA tells us 80% of what we eat should be fiber-rich foods.

USDA My Plate

But only 8% of USDA farm spending supports fiber-rich food crops, with less than 3% to fruits and vegetables.

USDA food funding

The fact is, Americans are eating half the fiber we need. That's putting us all at greater risk for developing diet-related diseases. At the same time, the system is only supplying half the fiber we need. It's a supply and accessiblity issue. So why are our tax-dollars not going to these foods?

It's time to take the power back.

THE SOLUTION

Congress has the power to

  • help farmers diversify into growing fiber-rich food crops by introducing the FARMS Act
  • prioritize fiber-rich foods in the upcoming farm bill with AFA's legislative proposals

AFA is engaging with Members of Congress right now but we need your help!
