Letter from Derek Andrews about God and Veganism - 21 Apr 2005
Hello,
My name is Derek, and I would like to first of all say that I think your web site is pretty good. I think it is great to give God the glory for all of his creation. What I thought was odd or wrong what you have at the bottom of the page I was at, "If we REALLY want God to bless America and the earth, GO VEGAN!" What do you mean by that? Are you saying that it is wrong or sinful of people to eat meat and if we don't God will bless us more for just that reason?! If you read Genesis 9 verses one through three you will see that God told Noah that he could now eat meat. Likewise, if you read Acts chapter 10 verses 9 to 16 you see that God told Peter not to call anything that He had made unclean and that he could and should eat it. God said in verse 13, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat." Again I think your web site is awesome, giving the glory to God not to "mother earth". May God bless you and keep you.
In brotherly love,
Derek Andrews

Dear Derek:
Thank you for writing.
A vegan lifestyle is more than being a vegetarian, it includes being non-violent to the whole of creation. Violence only produced more violence; it never brings about lasting peace, as history has proven. Jesus, the greatest peacemaker of all time, calls upon us to be non-violent, and very few of his followers walk in His peacemaking footsteps. Instead we call upon God to bless our violence.
The act of eating flesh is not in itself sinful, since it is granted in a concession of God (Genesis 9), but the violence and cruelty associated with putting those body parts on our plates is most definitely sinful and against the will of God.
In reference to the Acts passage you refer to, please see: http://www.all-creatures.org/discuss/svtacts10.1-11.18-flh.html
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank and Mary
