Letter From Trudie About Eating Animals - September 18, 2008

Dear Frank and Mary,

I was so happy to hear a response so soon and I will be supporting your web site as I believe in all that you do. I have been on so many different parts of your web site, some of which I must admit have left me stunned, depressed and absolutely furious and needless to say in absolute tears especially. The Dog..it is so horrific what people do to animals of all species.

Anyway, I have been discussing this whole animal issue with my husband who is not as big of an animal advocate as I am. He is a lover of animals but does not get the whole " picture " just yet. We are both born again Christians and he tells me that God created certain animals for us to eat and I told him to find that in the Bible for me but he does not "find" scripture. He says he knows it's there so my question is, I know it talks about not eating pork or other meats where the hoof is separated or something and certain fish.

Are we supposed to eat meat or not? What about fish? Jesus fed many with fish. I am confused. Does your web site advocate vegetarian etc. because of the inhumane treatment of the animals before they are slaughtered or are we not supposed to eat meat?

Please let me know at your convenience as I am trying to turn towards veggie or vegan but I don't want to argue with him over it. I mean I personally really cannot think of a "humane" way to kill an animal. A bullet to the head is perhaps the most humane way I could think of.

So is it because of the torture and horrific abuse or what? I am looking forward to your answer because I am praying there is scripture to back this up so I can show him.

Thank you so much for your time.

Sincerely,

Trudie

Dear Trudie,

Thank you for your reply. We'd have to write a book to answer all of your questions (:-)), but we'll give it a try.

God's creation and heavenly intent is for us to be strict vegetarians/vegans. See Genesis 1:29-31 and Revelation 21:4. If there is no death in heaven there can be no animals raised for food. Isaiah also makes this clear in 11:6-9. Jesus tells to to be perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect (Matthew 5:48), and tells us to pray for "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." (Matthew 6:10). If Jesus wants us to pray for the loving peace and tranquility of heaven to reign upon the earth, then shouldn't we be doing everything in our power to end as much pain and suffering and death as we possibly can? In our Bible section, please see "Living in the Will Rather than the Concessions of God," which should hopefully explain more.

Even if Jesus did feed the people with fish a few times, it is no reason for us to do so, because Jesus tells us in John 14:12 that we should be able to do even greater works than He did. We can be more compassionate than the world around us, and we should be, which is the main reason that we advocate a vegan lifestyle.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
