Letter From Julie About Churches and Animal Cruelty - 6 October 2008

Good evening,

I recently attended an animal rights conference, Speaking Their Truth, in Raleigh where I learned about your organization. As a Christian, I am amazed with how many BBQs or meat eating events are held at churches on Sunday right after we pray for life, compassion, and kindness.

I am saddened that most do not make the connection between the sanctity of life of humans and that of our beloved animals. My family attends Crossroads Fellowship in Raleigh and I would be interested in working together with All-Creatures to promote education within the congregation about a vegan lifestyle.

How does your group partner with advocates? My church has a set-up of booths that provide information on missionaries, counseling, Habitat for Humanity, etc. I would love to work with All-Creatures to set up a booth or get advice on the best way to go about approaching the church.

Thank you, Julie

Dear Julie:

Thank you very much for writing and for your interest.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of church are like yours, and don't make the connection with the suffering of animals, or even worse, they don't want to.

We have been working on this problem for a long time, and have found it very difficult to promote compassion for animals and even for the people who care about them from the top down in the churches, and that almost all inroads have been made from the grass roots level, by people like you.

We have recently been organizing grass roots Christian/animal rights/veg ministries all around the world that are bringing together like minded people and providing the support and comfort that the churches are not. Please take a look at what some of the others are doing and let us know if this is something you would like to help us organize in your area.

And, because we are organizing together, we are starting to find that some of the churches are more open to our message of compassionate living for the whole of God's creation.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
