Letter From Lanell About the Bible and Eating Animals - 1 Sep 2009

Hi,

I noticed your comment about God's original intention for man and his food to eat. All through the Old and New Testament there is made mention of man eating animals.

Personally, I wouldn't have the heart to kill anything, but I think you are carrying it a bit too far to act like God didn't intend man to eat meat if he wants to for his meal. Naturally, it's horrible to cause any animal suffering or to waste what God has created, but in the end of the book of Revelation, the Bible warns about adding to and taking away from the Scriptures.

Honestly, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings. I'm just a person who loves the Scriptures and my Lord.

Sincerely,

Lanell

Dear Lanell:

Thank you for writing, but we believe that you are making the same mistake that most people do when interpreting the Bible. We don't have to take away or add anything; we just need to recognize the difference between God's creation and heavenly intent, as compared to the concessions He allowed to help bring sinful humans back to following His intent.

God created a perfect world where there was no pain or suffering or death, and when we look at Revelation, we see that there is no pain or mourning or death (21:4 for example), which is God's intent. It was only after the Fall that death entered the world.

Jesus tells us that we are to be perfect as our heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48), and to pray for our Father's heavenly will to be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). If we are to be like this and pray like this, it doesn't make any sense to promote death and suffering that comes with every mouthful of an animal's flesh or bodily secretions. We should all be eating a plant based diet.

We hope that this helps.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank and Mary
