How cruel to subject an inoffensive bird to this torturous death (Fireworks taped to blackbird, 5/1) - but aren't those of us who explode fireworks in the "normal" manner equally guilty of animal cruelty?
We all know that fireworks terrify animals, and we all know they're not necessary. Dogs have been know to smash through glass windows and scale high fences in their bid to escape this unknown terror.
Many end up lost and injured while others die under the wheels of cars. Isn't it time we started treating our fellow creatures with the kindness and consideration that we would wish for if we were them?
Isn't it time to stop celebrating with fireworks?
