Letter from Jenny Moxham to the Editor: Season of Slaughter - 9 Dec 2011

The Press, New Zealand 9/12/11

If Christmas is meant to be a time of peace and goodwill, why do we inflict so much pain and suffering on our fellow sentient beings, particularly turkeys, at this time?

Why do so many Christians, including the clergy, fail to see how nonsensical it is to be celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace by torturing and slaughtering millions of inoffensive, peaceful animals?

And why do so many people fail to recognise the inconsistency in sending out cards with wishes for peace on Earth, then supporting and partaking in violence by buying the corpse of some cruelly abused animal to carve up and feast upon on Christmas Day?

Jesus called on his followers to act in a loving, merciful and compassionate manner. Cruelly massacring millions of peaceful animals to celebrate his birthday turns Christmas into farce.

Jenny Moxham Monbulk,
Victoria
