Letter from Jenny Moxham to the Editor: Villainous Humans - 23 Dec 2011

The Age 23 Dec. 2011

THE Department of Agriculture would like us to believe that foxes are contemptible villains who deserve to be poisoned and shot (''Sly new twist on the fox problem'', The Age, 22/12).

Foxes are simply wild animals trying to survive. It is we humans who are the villains for bringing them to Australia.

Just as we would do our utmost to survive, so do foxes. Is that a crime?

The main reason the Agriculture Department wants foxes killed is because they are killing sheep. Why do they think this is so terrible? Because the farmer wants to kill the sheep himself - not for survival but for money.

Jenny Moxham, Monbulk
