Staff at Melbourne Zoo have given the animals Christmas gifts (All creatures great and small love Christmas too, 23/12) but I' sure the gift they would like most would be the gift of freedom.
Zoos are nothing but animal prisons that cruelly rob animals of their liberty and subject them to sad lives of boredom and deprivation far from their natural homes.
Though zoos like to tell us they are "saving" endangered species the reality is that most zoo animals are not endangered and those who are will likely never be rehabilitated to the wild. Instead they will spend their lives having babies and being shunted from one zoo to another.
