[Letters in response to Tell Green Mountain College to honor Bill and Lou...not kill them...]
Dear Mr. Throop:
I read about your institutions intention to slaughter two oxen, Bill and Lou
instead of turning them over to a sancturary that is ready, willing and able
to take them in.
Higher education has always been a priority for me, and I am a licensed
attorney in California with a special interest in animal welfare. It seems
logical that if you spare the lives of these two oxen after their service to
your university, that public opinion would be with you and may actually
garner some donations to your programs.
I am a vegetarian and have been for many years. Bill and Lou do not have to
suffer the fate of the majority of farm animals in the U.S.A. Please make
them an example of compassionate treatment, rather than cheap hamburger.
These oxen are more like pets and it would be a tragedy for them to die a
violent death.
Hopefully your moral compass will dictate your actions.
Respectfully,
Linda
