Letter from Julie Caracci Concerning Hypocrisy in the Church – 25 Feb 2004

All Creatures,

I found your web site as a link from the JesusVeg site, which I found as a long time PETA member.

I am writing to tell you and other "compassionate Christians" how happy I am to have discovered this web site. As a devout Christian, as well as [an] animal rights activist, I have been rather disappointed regarding what I have found as far as the attitude toward animals. I see quite a bit of self-righteousness and arrogance amongst those who proclaim to love Christ. This is rather confusing, for I believe that Jesus would NOT approve of all the horrible cruelty which includes factory farms, hunting, vivisection, etc. that many Christians are not bothered with. I see much hypocrisy. Do you?

Thank you,

Julie in California

Dear Julie:

Thank you very much for your email.

Yes, we also see a lot of hypocrisy in Christianity, particularly when it comes to the issue of compassion. Mary says that the hard-of-heart people have hijacked much of today’s Christianity to the extent that it no longer represents the Church of Jesus Christ. Every day people write to us about this problem.

To us, it is so obvious that the love of God has no limits; it extends to the whole of creation and beyond. We simply cannot understand how so many supposed Christians can be so blind. Are these the ones the Bible tells us will cry out, "Lord! Lord!", and He will answer, "I never knew you."? This is a scary thought.

We look forward to hearing from you again.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank
