Letter from Julie Caracci Concerning the Church – 26 Feb 2004

Mary and Frank Hoffman, All Creatures,

I was so delighted to see that you had responded to my email regarding my confusion and disappointment within the Christian church. I don't want anything to stand between my relationship with Jesus as it does with so many people. I would rather try to understand.

By telling me that you are alerted of this "problem" every day by many others, is soothing. I have prayed, studied scripture for a long time, and feel that I have a personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ in my heart. I've recently been blessed when my husband joined me, which by the way, is one of the best "gifts" of my life. Together we've been puzzled by the apathy and cold-heartedness displayed by those who otherwise seem to be so "holy" at our church.

Common sense tells us that Jesus loves animals just as he loves all living beings within the Father's creation, otherwise, nothing in the scriptures would make sense. I heard once that self-righteousness is one of the worst sins possible. I tend to think that some people are simply "followers" who will do whatever they are told, some are ignorant, and some are blinded into cold-heartedness - unwilling to give up their cruel lifestyle out of lust and selfishness trying to justify it by twisting scripture to their personal liking. Sad.

Although when we look into the eyes of sentient "flesh and blood" animal-beings, it is obvious that God created them with equal love and compassion. He practiced no discrimination or bias. Love is love.

Your email stated that these could be the ones the Bible tells us will cry out, "Lord! Lord!", and He will answer, "I never knew you." You could be correct, but one thing is for sure, and that is that we will all find out soon enough. Sadly, animals are suffering without a voice (except for us) to those with callused hearts, yet it breaks mine.

I feel blessed though, that I am sensitive enough to recognize this. Jesus has taught me much.

May God continue to Bless you, thus making you aware of these truths.

Julie

Dear Julie:

Thank you very much for your letter and comments.

You pointed out a very important factor about our spiritual awareness of creation when you wrote, "Although when we look into the eyes of sentient "flesh and blood" animal-beings, it is obvious that God created them with equal love and compassion. He practiced no discrimination or bias. Love is love. " Are you also aware that the Hebrew Bible teaches us that animals have souls and spirits just as we do? We are all living souls, even though the English translations try to hide this fact.

In the Love of the Lord,

Frank
