When we are refusing to be vegan, and are looking for reassurance about our actions, this sort of ‘expert’ is just what we’re looking for to reinforce our prejudices and remind us of the myths and lies that form the bedrock of our use and consumption of other individuals.

On the subject of ‘experts’ in general and exploitation industry 'experts' in particular...
Or let’s put it another way; when someone wants you to buy what they are
selling so that they can make money, do you REALLY trust them to tell you
the truth about their unscrupulous practices? Or would you trust the person
who has nothing to gain and only the truth to give you? In most areas of our
lives, I think the answer to that is obvious. We follow the money. Right? We
pride ourselves in spotting a con.
However, consider how those who make their wages and profits from using and
breaking the lives and bodies of defenceless creatures, are represented in
the media as ‘experts’. These widely quoted 'experts' never mention the
truth; the violation that conceives each helpless creature, the misery,
incarceration and mutilations, the nightmarish existence that is inflicted
on them all, the pain, the fear, the disease and the horrific procedures
that all lead to the same destination – premature and agonising death for
every single furred, finned or feathered individual.
Because of the source of their income, every industry 'spokesperson' and
industry-employed ‘expert has a huge vested interest in maintaining consumer
confidence, with the emphasis on the ‘con’. Knowing that most consumers
don't know - and in many cases would prefer NOT to know - the details, the
deceptive and juvenile level of their propaganda, the self-serving spin,
would be embarrassing in almost any other field of commerce. And knowing
what I know, I doubt they ever COULD be honest, given the blood-spattered
violence of their trade, the catastrophic impact it's having on our dying
planet, and the proven damage being caused to human health. No one in their
right mind would want anything to do with them.
But when we are refusing to be vegan, and are looking for reassurance about
our actions, this sort of ‘expert’ is just what we’re looking for to
reinforce our prejudices and remind us of the myths and lies that form the
bedrock of our use and consumption of other individuals.
So today, please look closely every time you see someone hailed as an
‘expert’ and consider what they stand to gain if you believe what they’re
telling you. If honesty and sincerity are important to us, the truth about
what we do to our fellow creatures is all there for the reading - and
usually on the industry's own sites. As I have always written, don't take my
word for it, Google is a wonderful tool.
Knowing the truth meant that the only thing I could do was to stop refusing
to be vegan. Let it be the same for you.
