UPC received the following letter, dated Dec. 30, 2025, from our friend and longtime animal advocate Barbara Moffit.

Dear Friends at UPC,

I would like to report a crime against chickens in Oklahoma. On December 23 of this year, some sort of transport truck carrying 50 chickens overturned on an off-ramp of I-240 in Oklahoma City. Many of the chickens escaped, and people tried to catch them, but couldn't. The Department of Agriculture was called, but they didn't want to deal with the chickens, OHP officers shot and killed them all!

The story was reported several times. No one seemed outraged, except us! I took this photo of their statement from the TV news [see original article]. I know nothing can be done for the victims, but I wanted their story to be told.

Outraged in Oklahoma,

Contrast this with one year earlier, where Oklahoma troopers help chickens cross the road after getting loose on I-44 near Tulsa.
