The True Love of Our Veganism – Lenten Reflection #1
We know Eden was vegan. Moses and his people were sustained in the desert by manna. The coming Peaceable Kingdom will be vegan—and heaven is vegan. Yet in this present fallen world, those of us who have embraced compassion can easily feel overwhelmed by the cruelty, torment, torture, and violations inflicted upon God’s creatures and upon our fellow humans.
The way out of overwhelm is to turn again to our loving Creator and allow His abundant, overflowing love to seep into our hearts, souls, and bones. Sometimes we become too self-reliant. We don’t go to Him often enough—when His love is exactly what we need to be filled with, rather than the troubles of the world.
What we fill ourselves with matters, because we are living examples of what Jesus taught: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34–35). So this Lenten season, let us delight in the love He bestows upon us, so our wells never run dry. This week, let us reflect on His abundant, overflowing love—and let it overflow through us.
