(Columbine, Shortspur (Aquilegia brevistyla) - 01) A patch of shortspur columbine highlights the edge of the road in late spring.  There are about 25 species of columbine in the United States.  Most are in the mountain states.  In the eastern United States there are only 2 species, both of which are in this series of the Wild Flowers of Sleepy Hollow Lake.
