(Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) - 02) Red-tailed hawks are often referred to as chicken hawks, but they rarely go after adult chickens. They can range in weight from 1.5 to 3.5 lbs., and their length varies from 18-26 inches. Red-tailed hawks also have a wing span of 43 to 47 inches.
