(
Cinquefoil, Common (Potentilla simplex) - 01) The little dots of yellow
of the common cinquefoil in the midst of a green field or along the sides of the woods
often catch our eye, but we all too often fail to see the beauty that a closer view would
give us. The entire flower is only about 1 cm. or less than 1/2 inch across, yet God
has endowed it with a special beauty. The morning that we took this picture, this
particular cinquefoil's glory was enhanced by a single dewdrop.
(
Cinquefoil, Common (Potentilla simplex) - 02) This common variety of
cinquefoil, a member of the Rose family, is easily identified by its five-fingered
elliptical saw-toothed leaflets which grow from crawling runners of one to two feet long.
Their contrasting bright yellow flowers bloom during the months of April to June.
Cinquefoil has become one of our natural ground covers on the lakeside slope of our
home where this picture was taken.
(
Cinquefoil, Common (Potentilla simplex) - 03) God has given us all kinds
of beautiful things to look at and meditate upon to help us have peace of mind. If
we just take the time to open our eyes and see the magnificence of God's little wonders,
such as the common cinquefoil, we are rewarded in our heart and soul with a joy that lifts
our spirit. God has given even the smallest of His creations the same attention to
detail as He has the largest.

Presented here are just a few of the countless components of God's creation.
Just as we cannot have human and animal life without water and plants, neither
can we have lasting peace without love and compassion. It is our hope and
prayer that this series will motivate people to live and act in a cruelty-free
manner; that we would no longer hurt or destroy each other, the animals or our
environment.
