Poems of compassion dedicated to the non-human animals who share this planet with us and the people who fight for them.
Sung to the tune of Barry McGuire's "Eve of Destruction"
The environment it is imploding,
species are lost, you sit there gloatin’
“lions though!”, you keep on quotin’
Eating animals ‘s a must for protein’
while even the Amazon, her topsoils erodin’
yet you tell me,
over and over and over again my friend,
that you cannot see,
The lies you spread are all fiction
can’t you understand what they’re tryin’ to say
recognise their tears, as you disobey,
golden rules you’re rejecting, for murders that you pay,
if we fail to take action, there will be no satisfaction
you must open up your mind, and stop being so unkind
yet you tell me,
over and over and over again my friend,
that you cannot see,
The lies you spread are all fiction
Who’s that you’ve just had, whose life you’ve dominated,
can’t you see your minds contaminated,
you can twist the truth and hope for your salvation,
but what you’re doing boy deserves no commendation
you leave behind you naught but desolation,
animal respect your violatin’
and in turn this world annihilatin’
yet you tell me,
over and over and over again my friend,
that you cannot see,
The lies you spread are all fiction
think of all the animals we kill each year,
that’s 60 billion beings, who live in fear
you may choose to look the other way,
but if you do so you’are led astray,
your soul you disobey, by each creature that you slay,
you can eat up the dead, but to your dismay,
for eating of the dead is but dining on decay.
yet you tell me,
over and over and over again my friend,
that you cannot see,
The lies you spread are all fiction
Mmm, no, no, you cannot see,
The lies you spread are all fiction.
