Five years old and tabby-striped,
with whiskers fine and paws all white,
Lulu slipped out one fateful day
and simply, quietly, walked away.
Somewhere, somehow, she found a way
across a river, wide and grey.
Her humans everywhere did seek
As hours turned into days, and days to weeks
Back at home, her mother prayed
each morning, at the break of day,
“Please, please, let her come back to me,
let her walk through the door, please let it be.”
But days turned weeks, and weeks turned long,
and hope grew thin, though love stayed strong.
Her prayer grew soft and changed its tune:
“Please keep her safe, beneath the moon.”
Three months went by, a winter’s span,
and then, by chance, a photo ran.
Two friends who saw it messaged her,
And when she looked, her heart did stir!
“It’s her! It’s Lulu! She’s been found!”
The mother’s joy it knew no bounds.
After all this time, with hope diminished
the wanderer’s journey had now finished.
"A prayer was answered, a miracle found,
Lulu is home, safe and sound."

My friends Leonie and Tim were heartbroken when one of their beloved cats went missing - and stayed missing for three long winter months. Leonie, who continued to go on walks calling out for her, told me she prayed every day that she'd come home. Until a couple of weeks ago when she found herself looking at her photo online! Lulu was safe and would be coming home.
I was touched at Lulu's story, and the devotion of her humans, and wrote a little poem about it.
