Poems of compassion dedicated to the non-human animals who share this planet
with us and the people who fight for them.
In the flooded field, a streak of angel-white
Fanned wide, strong, protective;
Guarding her eggs against the rising swell.
She is sure in her love,
Trusting that Grace will favour Life;
Over the hungry Dart.
The burst banks of the river bleed towards her,
A torrent of Biblical Death;
But she is peaceful.
