Wolves

An Animal Rights Poem from All-Creatures.org

All of God's creatures have rights, a fact that most people don't seem to recognize. This includes both human and non-human animals, but not all of them can speak for themselves.

Beautiful creatures of the night
who will care about your plight

So very misunderstood
but survive you should?

You were put here for a reason
but have been persecuted for treason

Survive in the wild you must
else nature be unbalanced I trust

So few of you are still alive
we must find a way for you to thrive

Once a proud creature and one of distinction
but I fear you are headed for certain extinction

So many want to see you dead
tis a fate I so dread

History has painted an unfair image of you
but truth has little with it to do

Killing only when hungry, that is your style
to accomplish this you may travel many a mile

Never has a healthy wolf attacked a human being
but my furry friend, we are just not seeing

That only sick and frail animals is what you prey upon
hopefully soon on your horizon will be a new dawn

One of hope, of an ancient belief come true
as Indians thought so highly of you

The Creator put all creatures big and small
here on this great big spinning ball

We have already lost so many others
why must we see you as the enemy and not as brothers

It is not up to us to choose your fate
but sadly your numbers fall at such a fast rate

I do not wish for it to happen, for it to be true
that our children will only know of you from the zoo

I pray that doesn't happen too fast
oh please Creator, don't let today be their last...
