DUNCES
Poetry by Patrick N. Kramer
Written 6-5-06

I got into politics once.
I discovered I’m not a smart enough dunce.
I took the time to take a walk.
Time I spent wisely, for to the people I did talk.
I took the time to listen and to hear.
This kind of person in their midst politicians do fear.
They fear us, for we listen to what the people do say.
They fear us, for we’re not the kind to take special pay.

I got into politic once.
But like I said, I’m not a smart enough dunce.
No college education do I have, telling me what is right.
For no higher education did I need for me to see the light.
I was willing to work for the people you see.
For politicians are elected by the people like you and me.
I was willing to work for those who elected me to do the job.
I was willing to fight, our rights to keep, and to not be robbed.

I got into politics once.
I was most definitely not a smart enough dunce.
I was not smart enough to say to the few, I will.
I was not willing, my beliefs I should kill.
I am elected by the people, for the people, I did say.
Foolishly spending the tax money needs to be stopped, I did say.
But my ideals were not right, for the tax payer I found.
For I was only one, in the midst of smart dunces, that do abound.

I got into politics, just that once.
I attempted to stay, but I was not a smart enough dunce.
I ran again for reelection.
The voters put back in, a former selection.
They elected a man, whom their voices he would not heed.
A smart enough dunce, willing to spend the taxes, with speed!
And so it is throughout the land, the voice of the people they do not hear.
The intelligent dunces get reelected, to work for the few I so do fear.
