Anne's Individuality

From Zoe Rosenberg
Facebook posting, November 8, 2022

Nonhuman animals deserve to live, they deserve their freedom, they deserve bodily autonomy and yet we have stolen everything from them. It’s so unfair.

Chicken Anne

In the 2 weeks Anne has lived with me, she has astonished me greatly.

She underwent a trauma so great that I don’t think many of us can ever truly understand. She was literally on the kill floor of a slaughterhouse, watching her brothers and sisters be brutally slaughtered all while expecting to be next. And yet, she has become so trusting and bold in the short time I’ve known her.

She has begun jumping in my lap. She likes to be in whatever room I am in. When I sit on the couch, she likes to perch on the armrest next to me. She trusts me, even though humans have tormented her so much throughout her life. She trusts me despite all of it.

I hope someday people will see that beautiful individuals like Anne deserve better than the systems we have put in place for them. Nonhuman animals deserve to live, they deserve their freedom, they deserve bodily autonomy and yet we have stolen everything from them.

It’s so unfair.
