1 John 5:7-21

World hate world fear is the way the world we live in operates, because it lacks heavenly love, which is what all true believers are supposed to have, but sometimes fail to use.

Note what we are told in 1 John 4:18…

18. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.
NASB

Hate is really a form of fear; therefore, if perfect love casts out fear, then it also casts out hate.

When Christians get caught up in world hate world fear, it indicates that they are not truly born again or, for whatever reason, they are not living in the heavenly will of God and filled with His perfect love, or such people are afraid to utilize that love, which also means that it is not perfected in them.

Such people usually are those who try to live with one foot in the world and one foot in heaven, and unfortunately such people are rejected by God.

Let’s apply these things to what Jesus told us as recorded in John 15:18-27…

18. "If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.

Think about this in terms of our own lives.

If we are truly living in the heavenly will of God, and doing everything in our power to live in the heavenly will of God, where there is no pain or suffering or death, our very presence in the world is a testimony against those who are living in the corrupt and evil ways of the world with all its violence, pain, and bloodshed, which causes millions of humans and billions of animals to suffer and die every year.

It is this witness against the ways of the world that brings out the world hate  world fear against us and about us, for they lack God’s perfect love.

19. "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

It really is that simple: we either are with God or we are against God; we cannot have it both ways and there is no middle ground.

So…Jesus reminds us…

20. "Remember the word that I said to you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

This is really the easiest way of knowing the hearts and minds of others and knowing who the true Christians really are.

If we are living the heavenly will of God here on earth as it is in heaven, doesn’t this provoke a reaction from others?

Of course it does…especially those who are living in the corrupt ways of this world.

21. "But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know the One who sent Me.

In other words, they don’t know God.

22. "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

And this is why our presence before them is a witness against them and provokes their world hate world fear.

23. "He who hates Me hates My Father also.

24. "If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would not have sin; but now they have both seen and hated Me and My Father as well.

So…if we are living the heavenly will of God in the presence of these kinds of people in the world, they fear us and hate us just like they did in the past and do with Jesus today.

25. "But they have done this in order that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their Law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'

This is also the way they feel about those who are vegan animal rights people, for many people hate them because they really see the truth in them.

26. "When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness of Me,

The Spirit of truth is the Holy Spirit who indwells all true born again believers and empowers us to be this kind of witness.

27. and you will bear witness also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.
NASB

And because we are truly born of heaven and filled with the Holy Spirit, we have Jesus with us, too.

In Acts 10:44-48, we are told how this happened with many other true believers.

44. While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.

45. And all the circumcised believers who had come with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out upon the Gentiles also.

Jesus came to the Jewish people first, but because their world hate world fear rejected His message, He turned his attention upon the gentiles, also.

46. For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered,

47. "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?"

Every single person in the world should receive the Holy Spirit, but unfortunately most people reject Jesus and His message, and as a result, they reject the Holy Spirit, so He is not with them.

48. And he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay on for a few days.
NASB

A lot of people who are not Christians will truly accept the gospel message, but for some reason many who are already Christians fail to live like it, and they are filled with world hate world fear, particularly when it comes to animal issues, and the people who are not like them.

Let’s think about these things as we look at 1 John 5:7-21…

7. And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth.

Think about it.

Can’t we relatively easily tell the difference between those who are living in the heavenly will of God as opposed to those who are living in the world?

We believe we can, particularly when we listen to their way of talking and see what they eat.

Listen to how John explains it.

8. For there are three that bear witness, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

9. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for the witness of God is this, that He has borne witness concerning His Son.

Everyone bears witness of who they really are, and it usually doesn’t take very long for their true colors to show through.

10. The one who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the witness that God has borne concerning His Son.

11. And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

And, this life is not of the world with its world hate world fear.

12. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.

The people who have this life with Jesus are filled to overflowing with heavenly love, and it shows in everything they do and say.

13. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.

14. And this is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

The people of the world lack this confidence, because their lives are filled with worldly violence, fear, and hate.

15. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

16. If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this.

John is referring to blaspheming the Holy Spirit, but the person we are praying for must also have a repentant spirit when confronted with the truth.

17. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

18. We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him.

We believe that it is more accurate to say that people who are born of God, or born again, do not intentionally sin, but when they do sin, their repentant spirit immediately asks the Lord to forgive them.

19. We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

20. And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

21. Little children, guard yourselves from idols.
NASB

Idols are not just things that are cast from molten metal or carved from wood or stone or made from clay; idols can be anything we put before God, including the corrupt and evil ways of this world.

I have seen people make an idol out of a car or boat or some animal product.

We don’t have to be like this.

We don’t have to be filled with world hate world fear.

We should be filled with the Holy Spirit and the heavenly will of God.

Amen?

Amen.
