Bill Crain tells the story of sweethearts Owen and Bonnie, how they met, and how they share their lives at Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary.

Last year, a female cow ran away from a nearby farm and entered our neighbor’s field. Owen, one of our steers, jumped over the fence and nuzzled her. After we lured him back inside, the two frequently visited across the fence.
We were able to get in touch with the cow’s owner, who told us he was getting ready to send her to slaughter. His workers tried to capture her, but she eluded them, and he allowed us to keep her. We then opened a gate, and Owen guided her into one of our pastures.
Our staff named our new resident Bonnie. Since then, Owen frequently grooms her and makes sure she isn’t disturbed by other cows when she eats. And, like many sweethearts, Owen and Bonnie go everywhere together.
