These boys are a living testament to the power of new beginnings.
Five years ago, six young cows were sent to slaughter—but they wanted to
live. Chico, wise beyond his years, led the others through three fences, and
together they ran through the streets of St. Louis, seeking refuge. They
knew that a better life was waiting for them, and they found it with us!
The heroic escape of the St. Louis Six was the reason we opened our Missouri
sanctuary, and it's been an honor watching them slowly, but surely settle
into their new lives and learn to trust.
Chico, Roo, Eddie, Houdini, Johnny Cash, and Spirit were just one year old
when they arrived at The Gentle Barn Missouri on this day in 2017. Though
Spirit sadly passed away from his injuries shortly after their rescue, his
brothers, now fully grown, honor his memory every day by embracing their
freedom and enjoying life to the fullest.
With their past a distant memory, these boys are a living testament to the
power of new beginnings.
