Laziz lived with another tiger in a tiny concrete cage, badly damaged by past bombings. Tragically, his partner died during the recent Gaza conflict and their mummified remains were displayed in a neighboring enclosure.
Laziz, which means “sweet” in Arabic, was smuggled into Gaza when he was just 6 months old and shown off at the Khan Younis Zoo in South Gaza, known as the “worst zoo in the world”.
Lazis lived with another tiger in a tiny concrete cage, badly damaged by past bombings. Tragically, his partner died during the recent Gaza conflict and their mummified remains were displayed in a neighboring enclosure.
Laziz...before
With your help we were able to remove him from these devastating conditions and to a 2.9 acre enclosure in our sanctuary in South Africa, LIONSROCK. Here, Laziz finally has enough space to live like a proper tiger – he can feel the grass beneath his paws, tree branches, run around outside and swim in his very own pool. He seems to have developed a love for wood- he enjoys sharpening his claws on tree trunks and rubs against the beams that support his hut.
Laziz...after
We can also imagine that the silence around him here at LIONSROCK is new
and welcoming, compared to the noisy and violent environment in Gaza.
