Yes, I agree with Jenny. Animals in zoos are sad, and the reasons for zoos are anthropocentric. Smaller species are fine as their habitat can more easily be reconstructed, but for mega fauna like elephants, zebras, big cats and giraffe's, their behaviors are severely hampered. The best way to see wildlife is to go to where they live and watch from hidden lookouts - or just watch documentaries. The zoo at Werribee would be more suitable.
As for conservation, deliberate breeding will not stop the overall decline.
