The same thing happened to me nearly forty years ago only my prey was a deer.
I shot it, saw it go down then get up and run away mortally wounded. It was a horrible sight. One that I never have been able to forget.
I quit hunting any creature since that day although I now shoot them with a camera I find it much more rewarding. I still shoot my guns on occasion but at clay targets.
