A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

God’s Gift – 4 May 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

Frank’s comparison of a Grandmother’s gift of a hand-knitted sweater given to a grandchild, with God’s gift of the earth given to humans as stewards, further illustrates the point I was trying to make in yesterday’s Blog, “We Will All Benefit” – 3 May 2006.

In Frank’s analogy, the grandchild takes the sweater, Grandma’s gift that she so lovingly knitted, and uses it on which to wipe his or her dirty shoes. Our loving God gave us this earth with the understanding that we would care for it and for our fellow creatures (Book of Genesis). Instead, we decimate His gift and have the colossal nerve to twist His words to excuse our evil. How often have we heard the hard-of-heart use the word “dominion” to justify their satanic lust for killing and for misusing God’s creation?

1 John 2:16-17 addresses this obsession of those who are caught up in the worldly:

16. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

17. And the world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God abides forever.
