A Mary T. Hoffman Commentary from All-Creatures.org

"Joyful Curmudgeon" An oxymoron?
No! I see all the beauty of God's creation and I'm joyful.  At the same time, I see all the suffering and corruption going on in the world, and feel called to help expose and end it so that we may have true peace and compassion.

An Open Letter to Christian Churches, conclusion – 17 May 2006
By Mary T. Hoffman

(Note: Here is the third and last part of the open letter to Christian Churches Frank and I wrote on 11 March 2002. It was addressed To all churches claiming to be “Christian”)

Every day we are confronted with scientific proof that animals share most of their genetic makeup with humans. Obviously, God uses an economy of means! We are approaching the time Isaiah speaks of:

Isaiah 11:9

9 They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,

For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD

As the waters cover the sea.

~New King James Version

There is no excuse for the violence that we promote either by our omission or our commission. We no longer can claim ignorance. And we cannot hide behind words like “cultural” or “traditional” to excuse rodeos, circuses, bullfights, hunting, trapping, dogfights, etc.

Our churches are full of complacent, greedy, self-indulgent, sadistic gluttons who use any and all excuses to wallow in their sinful condition. For the sake of their own comfort and material security, many pastors aid and abet their unholy flocks by perpetuating the status quo and making sure that children are brainwashed in their unholy “traditions”:

Matt 18:5-7

5 "And whoever receives one such child in My name receives Me;

6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it is better for him that a heavy millstone be hung around his neck, and that he be drowned in the depth of the sea.

7 "Woe to the world because of its stumbling blocks! For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man through whom the stumbling block comes!

~from New American Standard

The Prophet Isaiah's observations (Isaiah 59:15) over 2700 years ago, still ring true today:

15 Truth is nowhere to be found,

and whoever shuns evil becomes a prey.

~from New International Version

Corruption runs rampant, and anyone who tries to "tell it the way it is" is silenced by means of ridicule, gossip (this is rampant in many churches and may be thinly disguised as "prayer"), or other means. This results in a concentration of the most unholy in what claims to be "Christ's" church.

To put a new twist on an old saying: while Christ is physically away, the flock will play. But Galatians 6:7-8 offers hope:

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
