I think I’ll puke if I see one more of those totally irresponsible
ads like the one I saw on TV this A.M. when I was checking out the
weather report for today. As you’ve also probably noticed, the blatant
misuse of the word “happy” has become ubiquitous in the latest
doublespeak of the animal exploitation industries.
This particular manipulative affront to common sense and decency
features a little girl and her father, who is cooking a quick,
prepackaged breakfast of eggs and sausage before he goes to work. The ad
ends with a voice-over using the words “happy breakfast.”
Cynically, such ads are aimed at the most vulnerable consumers who
also happen to be the ones with the most health problems. Isn’t it
interesting that the powerful flesh and dairy industries, contributing a
fortune to influence politics through lobbying and who work “hand in
glove” with government, also contribute to the degradation of human
health that the government claims to be concerned about?
How can a product which contributes to clogged arteries, cancer,
obesity, etc. in consumers and is produced in factory farms, where
animal abuse is a hell on earth, be called “happy”?
