We have been so indoctrinated from childhood to believe that the
“lesser” animals exist only for our use, that very few people ever
question the way they are treated – mistreated, I should say. And from
what I’ve seen, some of the worst abusers are churchgoers. Isn’t it
ironic that those who claim to be followers of the Prince of Peace about
whom Isaiah prophesied, "A bruised reed He will not break….” (Isaiah
42:3), keep moving further away from compassionate living?
To increase their church memberships they spend money on
advertisements claiming to have “open doors” and “open hearts” when in
reality they drive away those who are most like Jesus in spiritual
wisdom, kindness and compassion. When you really get down to the truth,
isn’t that lying and false advertising?
If they were honest they would say something like this:
“We welcome only those who have left the higher standards of our
founders and who ignore any of their writings favoring vegetarianism or
kindness to other animals. If you love gorging on the body parts and
secretions of God’s tortured creatures in a friendly atmosphere where
your children and grandchildren can learn to carry on the traditions of
carnivorous cruelty, join us! We have pig roasts; roast beast dinners;
egg, sausage, and bacon breakfasts – ad nauseam. We welcome any creative
meal ideas for fund raising; providing, of course, that they include the
use of lots of meat, dairy, eggs, fish…. We are open to trying anything
that is not – well, you know – the ‘V’ word!”
