Seems like “going green” to help conserve the environment has
reached the status of a “feel-good fad.” A case in point: an area
supermarket sells green tote bags emblazoned with some sort of
environmental message.
Seeing a shopper come out with two such green bags – one in each hand
– caused me to wonder how many people really understand how the products
they purchase to carry in these green bags affect the environment that
they are urged to protect. If this shopper is typical of the ones we see
standing in check-out lines, their token efforts at “going green” hardly
scratch the surface of the problem: the Standard American Diet (SAD)
that is loaded with the animal-derived products of extreme cruelty
contribute to more greenhouse gases than all the motor vehicles in the
world.
If more consumers were told the truth so that they could make
intelligent, ethical choices, “going vegan” would be seen as the logical
conclusion to this dilemma. Instead, the powerful flesh/dairy/egg
industries, with their lobbyists and ubiquitous commercial ads, remain
in control.
Going Vegan is the only solution – good for the other animals, good
for humans, and good for the environment. It’s that simple!
