Alone...

the great heron
stands
stark still.
He gazes out
with ancient eyes
at the vast world
around him.
He is young,
but his tribe
has been here
for millions of years.
He exudes
a profound sense
of tranquility.
His vigil
is timeless,
seeing
so far beyond
my short-sighted eyes,
looking
so calmly
and clearly
into
the soul
of eternity.
