ASSUME
By Tammy C. Smith

[email protected]

Assume. I assume. I assume too much.
To assume, it sounds like a simple word.
I assume, is it really that simple?
Assume. Would that be a noun or a verb?

Assume? I assume: yes, they are O.K.
I assume they are treated with kindness.
I assume they are not being abused.
I assume has led me to thinking less.

Assume! I assume others see these wrongs.
I assume man will stand up for the weak.
I assume they will be rescued: loved.
I assume. ASSUME! Blessed are the meek.

Assume? Im trying. But it wont let go.
I assume that its God. My subconscious?
I assume that my heart wont rest until
They are safe, at peace. Dear Lord, please lead us.

Assume! I assume! I assume this much.
I assume this is my calling, from Him.
I assume that my purple pen must write.
Until they are safe. At peace. Each of them.
