Re: Genesis 9:1-4 - A Commentary on God's Concession to Eat Flesh by Frank L. Hoffman
Hello Frank:
I am experiencing difficulty understanding the passage Genesis 9:1,2. If one cuts out the command, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth,” the two verses read as, “God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them .... the fear of you and the terror of you shall be on every beast of the earth.”
That certainly doesn’t read like a blessing. (The term “curse” might be more accurate.) Your commentary on Genesis 9:1-4 makes mention of the blessing, but does not, in my opinion, make a connection between the blessing and the fear and terror of man experienced by the animals. Do any of your other commentaries address the blessing that is given in this passage?
Thanks for your assistance.
