Ray,
Your situation with your niece is probably why I prefer to emphasize Jesus' compassion and how that applies to factory farms and slaughterhouses, as well as trying to lead by example (vs. picking apart scripture--although I'm sure people will disagree with that).
My family knows why I do what I do. A couple of them eat less meat now.
