Dear Lisamarie:
Thank you for your comments and question.
In answering you question, we also need to look at God's creation and heavenly intent. In Eden there was no death prior to the Fall, and God gave only plant foods to humans and other animals. In heaven there is also no death, and thus no eating of flesh. Jesus is teaching the people how to live in the heavenly realm of God, even though they are still earth bound. So, from a logical point of view it would appear that God was not condoning the eating of flesh.
Then the question comes up about why did Jesus multiply the dead fish along with the bread. The only answer is that in this imperfect world the fish had been offered by the boy along with the bread, and Jesus accepted the offering in the spirit that it was given and wouldn't reject any part of it. What we are not told is how much fish was actually distributed. And based on the fact that only bread was left over after everyone was fed, it would seem that there was much less fish than bread.
The other part of your question has to do with compassion, and from everything we know, God does not want any living being to suffer; and since animal flesh only comes to people's tables through horrendous pain and suffering, we can be assured that this is not in God's will. Furthermore, it is a known fact that eating animals causes most of our human illnesses, so this, too, is another reason to be assured that it is not in the will of God.
We hope this helps.
In the Love of the Lord,
Frank and Mary
